PlayIt4Word© APA is a fun way to learn documentation of research in an essay. Students from high school all the way through PhD. programs must learn APA (American Psychological Association) in order to properly cite sources.
PlayIt4Word© APA was invented by Steven Climer after students complained that one of his in-class activities took too long. Steve was determined to come up with a way that all students could play his puzzle-type game at once instead of as a classroom. Along came PlayIt4Word© APA. Steve was convinced that if a student knew how to play a game or put together a puzzle, they could learn the patterns of creating a works cited/references Page.
Steve knew that if a student could master the simple patterns of citing books then the skill would easily translate into more completed entries for websites, magazines, etc…
He shared his idea with some colleagues who wanted the game for their classes, too. They marveled at how much they didn't know about documentation. Students also increased their confidence and accuracy, and Steve saw a huge drop off in mistakes when they created a works cited/references page after playing the game.
