PlayIt4Word©
|
PlayIt4Word© is a game of wits and words. The object is to be the first to complete a sentence and get all the points!
PlayIt4Word© was invented by Steven Climer after visiting "Game Night" at his daughters' local elementary school. It was a function that showcased many educational games that made learning fun.
A college professor, Climer had invented a game for use in his college classrooms, and "Game Night" inspired him to take the game further. He saw a need to help students understand the parts of speech and how English sentences are constructed. He started with simple photocopies on cardstock, his wife's excellent scrapbooking abilities, a papercutter, and a color laser printer in the basement. The game was instantly successful. Steve found that along with K-12 students that ESL, Basic Writers, and First Year Composition students especially enjoyed PlayIt4Word©.
He shared his idea with some colleagues who wanted the game for their classes, too. Students who played the game wanted to buy copies for their kids. Soon the demand for the game sparked Steve and his wife Karen to form the company TeamClimer and roll the game out to the world.
Steve didn't stop with just PlayIt4Word©. He also invented a junior version for new readers; a "wicked" version for advanced vocabulary; and a set of games to help students learn MLA and APA documentation style. TeamClimer launched in May 2008 with these five products.
